Equine Massage is a Hands on Manipulation of the soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance the horses health and well-being.
We teach a HANDS ON Full Body massage, we don't use machines, we teach you HOW TO FEEL for spasms and knots in the horse, so that you can FEEL them when they are loosing or when they are gone. Machines cannot do that, they cannot pinpoint where the soreness is, and cannot remove it like a hands on massage can.

Equine Massage Therapy is not regulated by any National board, or state Board. There is no governing body to be sure that you are getting the best training that you should. This is why it's necessary to do your homework before paying to go to a School. ALL CERTIFICATIONS ARE NATIONAL-it depends on the state, if you can legally work there or not. There is only 1 place to get a 'National Certification Test', thru the NCBAAM. Its $150 and you need 300hrs of training and to sit with a vet to take it, however it still doesnt' give you permission to work in states that have laws against it. Each School has their own TESTING according to the material that they teach.
1. You must be 18 and have horse experience. To have your own business, you need a business license, and for people to respect and trust you with their horses. You need experience, because horses are different than working on people. You need to know how to be safe, what the common ailments are (which we do teach), and just simple things like how to put a halter on and lead them, tie them if the owner isn't there.
2. Check your state laws. Some states are open and anyone can do massage, others are a vet only state. It varies from one state to the next. I have a link on the home page that you can check your state.
3. What type of course are you interested in? Some have all online classes (we have our Correspondence course), some have only hands on-from 2-10 days. MNHA has a Combo course (3 study groups online -approx 3 mos of information, plus 4 Days hands on training or a Live Chat), or we have our 7 Day Hands on (fast track thru the study groups). We offer more variety in the classes than other schools.
4. What do the Schools offer? Look at what is offered in the class, is it 'just massage' or do they teach you other things to look for-what I call 'outside influences' or Causes of Pain. If it's just massage, then you are missing out on some very important information that you will need, questions that clients will ask, that you won't have answers to.
5. What experience do the instructors have? Can you SEE the work the instructors are doing? How many years did they spend in the field working prior to teaching? How many horses did they work on prior to teaching? Can they show you any HARD CASES they worked on that the horse was most likely going to be put down, but they were able to save it? How many SUCCESSFUL, ACTIVE graduates do they have? *Look below for great success pics. This, to me is more important than any backing of an Association. They look at your website and let you know if it looks good, they never check the actual classes and see what is being taught, and by who. I have been taught and mentored by one of the top Chiro/vets in the country, founder and elder of the AHVMA (American holistic Veterinary Medical Assoc), and still work with him on hard cases.
6. Mentoring-does the School offer a mentoring group you can access at anytime? Even though we have 3 study groups full of information, it still cannot cover everything you might come across and need an answer to. We have 4 instructors in the group and hundreds of highly experienced graduates of the program, which include farriers and equine dentists that can help answer most questions you might have. Do they offer continuing educational classes for you at a reasonable cost? We have our Ala Carte classes, all can be done online and under $500!
7. Prices-check out the price, and everything that is offered to you. Our class is more than a 4-5 day Hands on course, but we spend much more time training you and you will learn much more in this program than any other. Prices are on the class information page at the bottom.
8. Payment Plans-we offer a couple great payment plans starting at $100 month!! Other Schools don't offer this.
9. How do you get started?? Contact me thru my email [email protected], or chat on facebook. I only need your email to send you an application and invoice.
10. NO WAITING! you start the day you pay me. Other courses you wait months to get in and start learning.
